Speos Artemidos

Rock cut temple (see it on a map) built by Hatshepsut (about 1479/1473-1458/57 BC) and dedicated to the lion headed goddess Pakhet. The temple is well-known in Egyptology for the inscription in which Hatshepsut presents herself as restoring Egypt after previous turmoil, including the opposition of the Hyksos (even though they ruled northern Egypt a century earlier than her reign).
