Pyramids in Egypt

Pyramids are the most famous buildings from ancient Egypt. The pyramid of Khufu was one of the seven wonders of the world. In the Old and Middle Kingdom the pyramids are always built by kings (for the king, but also for female members of the family). In the New Kingdom many tombs of private individuals had small pyramids. There are no longer pyramids for kings after the 17th Dynasty. The pyramid in Egypt is always part of a pyramid complex. A typical pyramid complex (Fourth - Twelfth Dynasty) consists of four parts: the pyramid, the pyramid temple next to the pyramid, a valley temple with a causeway leading to the pyramid temple and a small pyramid often called satellite pyramid.
