Pottery in the New Kingdom (about 1550-1069 BC)

Cypriot Bronze age pottery found in Egypt.

Merrillees 1968: 146-203, especially 203 distinguished eight main and several subtypes of Cypriot pottery found in Egypt. The vessels were the container of a special liquid, which was imported from Cyprus to Egypt. The nature of the liquid is still under discussion, but it has been argued that it was opium, partly because the seed pod of the opium poppy is of similar shape.
