Tell el-Balamun: plan of the excavated area

Site with a large temple complex, in the north-eastern Delta. All of the stone had already been dismantled in antiquity and either burnt for lime on the site, or removed for reuse elsewhere. The stone temples had therefore already been entirely quarried away when found. Only foundation trenches survived indicating the outlines of the thicker, mainly exterior, temple walls (T-shapes inside enclosure). The mud brick structures, including a fortress, were better preserved.
