Naqada, background information to the reconstructions

The information concerning single tombs in the original publication is scanty. Out of about 2100 tombs Petrie described only 136. Petrie did not publish a tomb register. He published plans only for a few tombs.

For the reconstruction of single tomb groups and of burials the following sources are available:

In her book Baumgartel published a tomb register, after visiting many collections that preserve objects from Naqada. This register is essential for reconstructing the finds of each tomb, whereas for the plans the notebooks of Petrie are the most important source.
