Hawara, fragment of glazed pottery: UC 45595

Rim fragment from a shallow, glazed pottery bowl; in style of Fayyumi ware. Petrie dated this to the late Roman Period by the context, but the type is not attested so early, so the archaeological context was probably more confused than recorded by Petrie: he did not illustrate precisely where the sherd was found in relation to other finds, and therefore his conclusion on the dating cannot readily be accepted.
