Furniture in Roman Egypt

In the Roman Period only small objects such as cosmetic boxes were placed with the body in tombs (where the chance for surviving complete is best). Therefore most often larger items of furniture have only survived in the form of fragments, on settlement sites (for example Karanis). The following parts of furniture might come from beds or chairs. Turned wooden legs are very popular in the period.

These legs probably come from a bed. Complete examples were found at Herculaneum.
