Defenneh: UC 19250

Upper part of similar pink ware pottery amphora, more bulbous, with a single line Demotic inscription in black, apparently relating to a votive dedication. Imported from southern Palestine or Phoenicia, or an Egyptian imitation? Defenneh lies at the northeastern frontier of Egypt, in the eastern Delta, and would have marked the entry point for traders coming from the Levant: the principal archaeological feature at the site is the fortress founded in the Late Period.
