Burial customs: pottery coffins of the New Kingdom (about 1550-1069 BC)

A special form of pottery coffins are the 'slipper coffins'. The whole coffin is shaped like a tube. At the head a piece was cut out pre-firing, and this part served as lid. Better quality examples are inscribed and decorated like contemporary wooden coffins.
