Leather in ancient Egypt

(leather - Egyptian: dHr)

True leather, which is a water-resistant product, was only introduced in the Ptolemaic Period. Earlier leather in Egypt is still in the tradition of Neolithic technology. Many objects in the Petrie Museum are from the settlement sites such as Lahun and Gurob. However, both sites were still used in the Ptolemaic and Roman Periods, and few precise findspots were recorded. Therefore, dating single leather objects from these sites is a problem.
